Since 1985 cellular shades have one of the most versatile and decorative products in the window covering industry. Initially they were designed as a horizontal shade which would transmit a warm, soft light using translucent and semi-opaque fabrics. As this product grew in popularity, manufacturers improved on the existing control systems as well as developing new operating hardware including a motorized head rail to facilitate shade adjustment in hard to reach areas. Hunter Douglas was at the forefront of these innovations resulting in one particular product which was the patented “Vertiglide” system. This new operating hardware made treating patio doors a breeze by turning the fabric pleats at a 90 degree from the horizontal - running vertically along a rail similar to a drapery track.
With this new product design, operation was made flawless and stacking was reduced to 6” inches in width no matter the window size. Child safety was also addressed as all operating cords are internal. Currently, only the _” pleat size is available which includes many of the most popular patterns. This feature is also available with the “Duolite” option, (2 fabric panels on the same track ie. sheer / opaque).
