Fabric shades are the most versatile of all the window covering options available. When raised, roman shades give the appearance of a folded valance. Lowered, they provide a degree of privacy determined only be the fabric selected. The attraction to these sophisticated shade styles is by far the array of fabric options on the market today. More colors, textures, and patterns than you can imagine. Shimmering sheers to “burn out” Voiles can be used to diffuse light and provide privacy, yet filling the room with natural streams of light. Semi-opaque fabrics from printed cottons to chenille velvets are used when more control of the elements is required. Woven linens and bold jacquard weaves add warmth and texture to any room setting.
Roman and studio shades are still the most popular styles, with cascade or waterfall shades a close third. Manufactured using many of the typical shade head rail systems, top down / bottom up, clutch controls, and head rails with integrated valances only enhance the appeal of these shades.
If custom is not in your budget, roman and studio shades are offered by many manufacturers using standard fabric options. These “standard” product lines are typically less expensive and offer faster delivery than a custom fabricated shade.
