The proper cubicle curtain and IV track system is essential for any hospital, physio-therapy clinic, or extended health car facility. The track profile is as important as the track configuration to ensure that the function of the system is congruent with the intended use of the area to be treated. Proper space allocated for each cubicle and layouts that stack curtains away from corridors and entranceways are often overlooked, but invaluable once the space is operating at full capacity. Ceiling mounted tracks are less costly, but suspended systems offer greater flexibility for layouts when considering poor air circulation or rooms where task lighting is insufficient.
There are numerous systems on the market, but don’t always be fooled with the price tag as the differences in performance can be worlds apart. Economy profiles often use friction based sliders as opposed to carriers with wheels which eliminate binding on large and especially curved tracks. Tracks with a hinged gate or detachable end cap to allow for quick adding or removal of glides are more user friendly than those tracks that do not. When purchasing suspended systems, consider that lighter weight tracks require far more ceiling hangers than heavier weight profiles. Many of the lighter tracks require a ceiling hanger every 30”, whereas heavier tracks can sometimes go distances up to 96” without support. A cleaner look is only one of the many benefits that spending money on a better system will provide.
